Thankfully, Northumberland is blessed with plenty of activities which don’t break the bank.
So, if you’re stuck for ideas about what to do with the family over Easter, or are just looking for inspiration for a day out, here’s 16 things you can do for less than a fiver per person:
9. Explore historic town walls
Walking around Berwick's town walls takes around 45 minutes, but for families with small children, this may fill a good chunk of time. The walls are free to tour. Photo: Tripadvisor
10. Walk Hadrian's Wall
A lot of Hardian's Wall is free to access. Enjoy the views as you walk by the wall and forts and stop for a picnic if the sun is out.
Walltown Crags sits between Birdoswald Roman Fort and Housesteads Roman Fort. Walltown is a good spot to stop between the two and take in what is arguably the most spectacular bit of Hadrian's Wall. Photo: Roger Clegg
11. Visit the Chain Bridge Honey Farm, Berwick
Visit the free visitor centre and learn all about bees and how they make honey. There is even an observation hive where you can watch worker bees in action. Outside you will find a selection of vintage vehicles. Photo: Tripadvisor
12. Walk around Northumberlandia
Northumberlandia is a huge land sculpture in the shape of a reclining female figure, which was completed in 2012, near Cramlington. Made of 1.5 million tonnes of earth from neighbouring Shotton Surface Mine, it is set in a 19-hectares public park. Photo: Steven Morris
