Teams frustrated as rain stops play in local cricket league
It was again a case of rain stops play for many sides in the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket league at the weekend.
Some games were cancelled, but a number of fixtures started, only for players to be left feeling frustrated as they were abandoned due to the elements.
Tillside 1sts started away to Cowgate in Division 2, but the elements intervened with the score on 55-2 in the 13th over, with Ross Hindmarsh on 20 not out.
Berwick 1sts lost by five wickets when they travelled to take on Corbridge 1sts in Division 3. Scott Middlemist top scored with 25 as Berwick found themselves all out for 93 with three wickets each for Corey Dover and Russell Perry. Corbridge then chased it down at 94-5 in 23 overs with Chris Fowler on 38.
Tillside 2nds picked up a welcome win when they beat Warenford by six wickets at Etal in Division 5. Brian Thompson top scored with 31 as Waren put on 95-9 in their 40 overs, Daniel Caddick taking 3-4 and Stewart Wright 3-11. Tillside took 26 overs to reach their target at 96-4 with opener Keith Bickerton on 44 not out.
Embleton won by 53 runs on their visit to Rock in Division 6. Gary Davison hit 47 as Embleton made 120 all out in 35 overs with Paul Roberts taking 4-31. Rock could only manage 71 in reply, all out in 31 overs with Hedley Grey taking 4-9 and Ewan Thorpe 4-17.
Wooler’s game at Stobswood was abandoned 17 overs in with the Glendale side on 65-2 with Robert Green on 34 not out.

Div 2 - Tillside 1sts v Bedlington 1sts.
Div 3 - Berwick 1sts v Cramlington 1sts.
Div 5 - Bedlington 2nds v Tillside 2nds; Warenford v Ulgham 1sts.
Div 6 - Ulgham 2nds v Rock; Wooler v Embleton.
In midweek, Berwick fell to a seven wicket away defeat against Division 1 side Alnmouth & Lesbury 1sts in the Tyneside Charity Bowl quarter-final.
Batting first, Berwick put on 91 from their 20 overs with Richard Farish top scoring on 27. In reply, despite claiming the early wicket of Dushan Hermantha, the home side reached their target in 15 overs.
