It was a disappointing week for Berwick Rugby Club with two cup defeats within the space of four days.

On Wednesday the Blacks lost 15-17 at home to Ponteland in the Northumberland County Cup, and on Saturday they suffered a heavy 50-17 loss away to Ardrossan in the National League Cup.

Now the Scremerston side will be hoping to kick-start their season this weekend when they take on Howe of Fife in their opening National League game at home on Saturday.

Berwick were well beaten by Ardrossan, but against Ponteland they led 10-0 at half-time and 15-12 before Pont scored a late try to secure a narrow win.
