£10 speedway and Bandits to re-launch their STARS campaign
Berwick Speedway are to re-launch their STARS project, which is aimed at boosting income to cover the running costs of the club.
And this week the Bandits confirmed that, with the help of their sponsors, they are offering supporters cheap viewing for their weekend fixture against old rivals Edinburgh Monarchs.
Adult fans will only be charged £10 for the Championship meeting on Saturday (June 15) with the club also staging a ‘Kids go Free’ promotion.
A spokesman for the club said: “This represents a massive discount on normal admission prices and hopefully we will see the place buzzing.”
The STARS project was launched at the tail end of last season to try and help raise money to keep the club going.
During the winter the club was put up for sale by the owners, brothers Scott and Jamie Courtney, and the project lapsed.
But now the vision is to unite all the groups and factions and get them to work together to help the club’s ‘significant running costs.’
Scott Courtney said: “We’d like to run a number of events and fundraisers to knock a hole in our stadium rent and medical cover bills for the rest of the season.
“Stadium rent costs in the region of £1000 per match and our double medical cover is £600 per match.
“I don’t expect us to be raising those sorts of figures but anything at all would go a long way towards the sustainability of keeping the Bandits on track.
“I’m putting this out there because I feel now is the time to call on everyone who wants to see the club continue.
“I’d like to see support from the Berwick Bandits Supporters Club and see all hands on deck from the new Supporters Club, and of course anyone who unconditionally loves the club.”
Meanwhile, Berwick have been drawn against Leicester Lions in the semi-finals of the Championship Shield and the teams will go head to head over the coming week.
The sides will meet at Leicester in the first leg on Sunday (June 16), with the return at Shielfield next Saturday (June 22).
The winners will go on to meet either Glasgow Tigers or Eastbourne Eagles in the final.
