Gary Anderson’s bid for a third World Darts Championship ended at the Alexandra Palace in London on Friday evening.
‘Flying Scotsman’ Anderson, started playing in the Berwick league. He was the fifth seed, and a two-times winner of the title in 2015 and 2016, but was beaten by 11th seed Nathan Aspinall, who claimed a 4-2 victory in their last 16 match.
In the earlier rounds Anderson had beaten Brendan Dolan 3-0 and come from 3-1 down to beat Ryan Searle 4-3.
Anderson won the first set, but hit the wrong double for a 2-0 sets lead. He fought back to 2-2, but Aspinall, who hit 11 180’s, held his nerve to clinch a place in the quarter-finals for the second successive year.
