New ultra sports event will be a ‘Race to the Castle’
Award winning events company Threshold Sports has announced the launch of the Heineken Race to the Castle, the latest addition to its endurance sports event portfolio.
Taking place on Saturday and Sunday, June 6 & 7, 2020, the 100km ultra marathon will pass by and promote many of the local historical landmarks, which includes the finish at Bamburgh Castle.
The breath-taking route will take a mixture of runners, joggers and walkers across some of the most varied and beautiful terrain the UK has to offer. Participants will start in Kirkharle and make their way through the world-renowned Northumberland National Park where they will have to overcome a variety of terrains including hilly woodland and stunning moorlands.
Winding along the River Coquet, the route then changes to one of the most awe-inspiring but challenging coastlines of the North East. Here participants are faced with sandy trails all the way to the finish at the spectacular Bamburgh Castle.
The launch of Heineken Race to the Castle will mark Threshold Sports first venture into the North East and will become the fourth ultra-marathon in their award-winning Trail Series, which already includes Race to the Tower, Race to the King and Dixons Carphone Race to the Stones. Each event presents a unique challenge and gives participants the opportunity to explore and discover some of Britain’s most beautiful countryside.
Threshold Sports CEO Nick Tuppen said: “We’re incredibly excited to bring our latest major event to the North East.
