The King’s Lynn and Great Britain rider was a class above the 16-rider field and had started as clear favourite to defend his crown. He won each of his five qualifying races by some distance and along with surprise packet Tom Brennan (Eastbourne), who scored 12 points, progressed straight through to the final. There, they were joined by Swindon and Birmingham rider Zack Wajtknecht (11 points) and Leicester’s Jack Thomas (12), who came through the semi-finals at the expense of Drew Kemp (Sheffield and Kent) and Dan Bewley (Belle Vue).In the final Wajtnecht made the gate on Lambert, but by the end of the first lap he had swept into the lead and held on comfortably for the victory with Thomas completing the podium. This weekend the Bandits return to track action after a two-week lay-off with away and home fixtures against Edinburgh in the Championship Shield. The teams will meet at Armadale on Friday with the Monarchs making the return trip to race at Shielfield on Salturday.
