Kasper ghosts in as replacement for Coty

Danish star Kasper Anderson has joined the club and will make his debut against the Championship’s table-topping Glasgow Tigers at Shielfield this Saturday.

Andersen has been drafted in as a replacement for Coty Garcia, who has been stranded in his homeland since the start of the season due to travel restrictions. He is also now nursing his father who has contracted the virus.

Andersen has only raced at Shielfield twice before, in the 2018 Bordernapolis individual event and in 2019 with Redcar Bears.

Team manager Gary Flint said: “We are delighted to welcome Kasper to the side and we firmly believe that the sky is the limit for him in his speedway career.

"He’s a level headed lad who wants to crack on and he is also a very positive influence on his team mates and we welcome that with open arms here at Berwick.“Welcoming Kasper to the side is fantastic but there is also a bittersweet feeling for all of us behind the scenes and on behalf of the management team we send our very best wishes to Coty Garcia and his family.

"Coty is in Argentina due to Covid restrictions but much more importantly he is nursing his father who has contracted the virus and we wish him a full recovery.“Coty is Berwick through and through and once foreign travel becomes more manageable and things are more stable we have every hope to pick up 2022 where we left off in 2019 with Coty but family comes first every time and as a club we respect that as top priority.”

There was no meeting at Shielfield on Saturday when the Bullets v Newcastle Gems National League fixture was cancelled due to the fact that their opponents withdrew from the league just a few days previous.Meanwhile, on Thursday, Kyle Bickley rode at Redcar in the British U21 semi-final where he finished joint top of the score charts on 14 points, but was placed runner-up behind Daniel Gilkes of Kent due to the fact that Gilkes had beaten Bickley when they met in their programmed rides.

Bullet Mason Watson also raced in the meeting scoring six points, taking three third places in his five rides.
