The Bandits went into the meetings knowing that nothing short of two victories would be enough to see them qualify for a top four place.

In the end, a 46-44 loss at Birmingham, followed by a 61-29 mauling from the Tigers at Glasgow meant the Borderers eventually finished fifth in the Championship table on 30 points with Leicester (50), Glasgow (48), Redcar (36) and Somerset (36) filling the top four spots.

At Birmingham, Berwick pushed the Brummies close but in the end came up just short.

Adam Ellis scored a full 12–point maximum for the home side and with Jason Garrity winning his first three races the Bandits knew that had to be more solid, and they were, with six riders each winning a race, the exception being Dany Gappmaier.

For most of the meeting they trailed by four/six points and they went into the last race four points down, still with the possibility of leaving with a draw. Guest Ben Barker won, but former Bandit Tero Aarnio beat Thomas H Jonasson into second place, which meant the home side just edged victory.

Birmingham - Ellis 12 (Max), Garrity 10, Aarnio 10, Castagna 4+1, Perry 4+1, Agertoft 3, Thomsen 3.

Berwick - Barker 11, Doolan 10+2, Garcia 8, Jonasson 7+1, Etheridge 4+1, Flint 4, Gappmaier O.

Berwick completed their league season as the second part of a double header at Glasgow on Saturday. In the end they were well beaten by the Scottish outfit who romped to a 61-29 victory with Rasmus Jensen completing a full 12-point maximum, former Bandit Claus Vissing an 11+1 paid maximum and Craig Cook unbeaten in the four races he started.

For the Bandits, who were without Thomas H Jonasson, Kevin Doolan won his final two races, and their only other race winner was Dany Gappmaier in heat eight.

Glasgow - R Jensen 12 (max), S Jensen 11+2, Vissing 11+1 (p/max), Cook 11+1, Bailey 9+3, Bickley 7+1, Andersen (rider/rep).

Berwick - Doolan 12, Barker 7, Gappmaier 4+1, Etheridge 4, Garcia 2, Flint 0, Jonasson (rider/rep).
