Spittal Rovers launch new junior set-up
Spittal Rovers have launched a new junior section with two new teams at U12 and U14 level.
The club said there was always plans to form a youth set-up once the seniors were settled so there is a structure throughout the club with a pathway right through to the first team.
The club has ambitions of one day introducing several teams under the Spittal banner and they see the likes of Alnwick Town, Blyth Town and Leith Athletic as the blueprint – the trio of well run clubs have made their structure a success and have never looked back.
The U12s will be managed by Stephen Lennon and former Rovers midfielder Brian Cowe, and will compete in the Glendale League at Wooler.
Both are passionate about their football, and Lennon brings experience at senior level having assisted Neil Oliver at Duns in the East of Scotland League as well as enjoying a spell with Berwick Rangers Reserves.
Gordon Smith and Phil Winson will take the U14s, again in the Glendale League, although they will play home and away rather than at Wooler every week.
A spokesperson for the club said they welcomed the new managers, players and their families to the ‘Rovers family’.
