New Rangers’ manager starts to make his mark
New Berwick Rangers’ manager Stuart Malcolm has started assembling his squad for his first season in charge at Shielfield Park.
And the first to put pen to paper on a contract last week was defender Jamie Pyper.
The 27 year-old has been with Cowdenbeath since he was a youth and racked up over 100 appearances for The Blue Brazil since his emergence in 2016.
The defender, who has penned a two-year deal with the club, will now be looking to nail down a regular spot in his first season in the Lowland League.
Meanwhile, striker Calum Smith will link up with the squad for the 21/22 campaign again after the experienced frontman put pen to paper on a new one-year deal.
A popular figure with the fans, Smith is a hard-working player who won the most Social Media Man of the Match awards during last season’s shortened campaign for his tireless efforts.
The forward finished his season at Gayfield, where he worked under Dick Campbell’s tutelage and alongside former ‘Gers David Gold and Michael McKenna for SPFL Championship side, Arbroath.
Unfortunately, Smith didn’t manage to make an appearance while on loan but offered good competition to help spur the Smokies to a seventh placed finish.
And another player, defender Ryan Finnie has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal which will see him remain at Shielfield Park until at least summer 2023.
Finnie, who completed the 2020-21 campaign in SPFL League Two having agreed a loan deal with Cowdenbeath following the early halt of the 20/21 Lowland League, was a mainstay in the Berwick starting line-up last season.
Equally adept playing in central defence as he is at right back, Ryan was sought after by a number of SPFL sides but agreed to renew terms with Rangers having enjoyed his previous spell at the club.
Meanwhile, Berwick Rangers are pleased to confirm that Gary Burns and Andrew Allan have been appointed to the club’s Board of Directors. The club is also delighted to welcome Jonathan Collura as an Associate Director
The appointments of Gary and Andrew come as recognition of the contribution the pair have made during their time with the club as Associate Directors.
