Murray spot on for win in charity football
A charity football match was held in Berwick on Saturday to raise money for HospiceCare North Northumberland and Berwick Cancer Cars
Teams representing the two oprganisations met in the game at Newfields and ended 0-0 after 90 minutes.
The final whistle arrived with the news that there would be no extra time - unanimously welcomed by all involved!
A penalty shootout ensued and with it came Anthony Murray’s calmness and composure, rifling his spot kick past Black to secure victory for HospiceCare North Northumberland on a day enjoyed by everyone involved and with all funds raised being split equally between the two local charities.
The teams were playing for the GMC Shield and organisers are now hoping that it can become an annual event.
The match was played by two ‘ageing’ sides, but that took nothing away from the competitive nature of the occasion, with both sides creating several chances throughout the game.
