Lucy Bronze.

The former Sunderland and Manchester City player, who now plays with European Champions Lyon, was second to winner Megan Rapinoe from the USA.

It was the third time Bronze had finished behind the American in 2019, as she was beaten to the Golden Boot for the leading goalscorer in the World Cup in the summer and the FIFA World Player of the Year award in September.

Bronze, 28, did have the satisfaction of winning the Uefa Player of the Year award in 2019, however.

The men’s winner was Barcelona’s Lionel Messi for a record sixth time.
