Daryl Healy scored twice for Berwick, but sandwiched in-between were three goals for the home side, which ultimately gave them victory.

Berwick got off the perfect start when straight from kick-off they broke upfield and Healy scored to give the visitors the lead.

It was an advantage they held onto until the stroke of half-time when East Kilbride scored twice either side of the break to go 2-1 in front.

They equalised just before the whistle through Winter, following a corner, and the second half was just a minute old when the home side went in front, Paul Woods seeing his shot deflected past Rangers’ keeper Sean Brennan.

Just four minutes later and East Kilbride were 3-1 up when Ruari Paton found the net with a lovely strike.

On 56 minutes Healy headed in his second of the game from a corner as Berwick got back to 3-2. A header from Purves then scraped the post and a free kick from Waugh brought out a good save from the home goalkeeper, but Berwick were unable to force an equaliser.

Manager Ian Little said his players responded well after going 3-1 down, but unfortunately they had been unable to sneak a point.

“We are making it hard work for ourselves at times,” he said. “The players are putting in plenty of effort, but we just aren’t getting the results.”

Meanwhile, Berwick have boosted their squad with the signing of Portuguese Under 18 international Joao Balde.

The attacking midfielder, who is 18, has joined the Shielfield Park club on a temporary transfer from Rangers, initially until January.

Joao, or ‘John’ as he is known at Ibrox, comes from Lisbon in Portugal and was called up as a member of their Under 18 international squad in March.

He has already played at Berwick, as a member of the Rangers’ Colts team who visited in the Challenge Cup earlier in the season.
