Rangers to pay for Notman knee operation

Berwick Rangers have confirmed that the club is to pay for Stevie Notman to ‘go private’ for an operation on his knee.

Notman, who is Berwick’s longest serving player, faced a wait of up to three months on the NHS.

But chairman Brian Porteous, after clearing the decision with his fellow directors at the weekend, said there was a possibility the defensive midfielder could be operated on ‘as early as next week.’

“We just want the fans to know that we are doing what we can to get Stevie back in action as quickly as possible.”

And the news was welcomed by new Berwick captain Jonny Fairbairn who added: “That’s terrific news. That means Stevie will be back sooner, rather than later, and the team can only benefit as a result of that.”
