Henderson sets 18-goal target for the season with Rangers
Blair Henderson turned 21 on Monday, and celebrated early with two goals against Montrose in Berwick’s 2-1 win at Shielfield.
It made it three goals in three competitive games for the striker, who says he has set himself a target of 18 for the season.
“I think one every two games at any level is a realistic target to aim for,” he said. “I would like to think I could net 18 this season, so three in three isn’t a bad start.”
Henderson says there is a ‘feelgood factor’ in the Rangers dressing room at the moment.
“We have a decent squad,” he said, “and I think promotion is something that everyone at the club really wants - the players, the manager and of course the fans.
“I think that is the minimum requirement this season, but it is within our capabilities.
“We have made a decent start and the players are growing in confidence. If we can continue like that, who knows where it will take us.”
Berwick manager Colin Cameron was delighted to get the league campaign off to a winning start after Rangers beat Montrose.
“It was a good three points,” he said, “especially as we have three away games coming up, including one in the League Cup against Kilmarnock.
“We want to make it difficult for teams coming to Berwick and our recent results against Alloa and Montrose show that is starting to happen.”
Cameron praised the effort of all his players, but had special mention for Henderson, who netted both goals in their 2-1 victory.
“He is a young striker’ but hopefully he will mature throughout the season. He’s got three goals in three competitive matches so far, so that’s a great start to the season for him.”
Meanwhile, Cameron has revealed that he hopes to see vice captain Stevie Notman, who recently had an operation on his knee, back in training with the first team some time in September.
