The only goal of the game came after 87 minutes when second half substitute Rory McKenzie fired low into the bottom corner to give the SPL side the spoils.

This was Berwick’s third pre-season friendly after two draws against North Shields and Dunfermline.

Player-manager Colin Cameron fielded a more settled looking side, with only two trialists in his starting XI, whilst Kilmarnock had a full compliment, with only one trialist on the bench.

After a bright start, Michael McKenna had a shot blocked and turned away for a corner, on seven minutes, from which a trialist defender shot wide.

On 16 minutes Killie created their first chance when Greg Kiltie shot wide, whilst at the other end Graeme Beveridge shot straight at keeper Jamie MacDonald from distance. Dale Carrick scuffed a deflected shot wide for a corner as The visitors tried to break the home resistance and moments later Rangers had to clear their lines after Kevin Walker fumbled the ball under a high challenge inside the six yard box.

After 33 minutes Killie had the ball in the net through Carrick, but he was ruled offside as he pounced on a rebound save from Walker at full stretch.

Both sides made changes in the second half, with Killie fielding ten substitutes after half-time and Berwick three.

Tope Obadeyi latched onto a long ball into the box’ but The home keeper made a good save. A Berwick trialist then fired into the side netting after a neat turn in the box.

Killie almost got in after 70 minutes, but a shot was cleared off the line by Robert Wilson for a corner. However, they made the breakthrough just three minutes from the end when McKenzie fired a low shot into the bottom corner after a good break upfield.
