Bell set to be named Rangers’ chairman
Berwick Rangers have confirmed that John Bell will take up the position of Chairman when the current encumbant, Len Eyre, steps down on May 31.
Mr Bell, who joined the Board of Directors for a second time in 2009, has been Vice Chairman for the past eight years, and is looking forward to the challenge.
“It’s been seven or eight years since we had the benefit of matches against Rangers and Celtic, and the relative success of a play-off position in 201,” he said.
“It’s been a very lean time since then, with reduced income, a lack of success on the field and instability off it. It’s one of my hopes that we can really engage with the wider public to encourage them to help Berwick Rangers to future success, and that everyone can play a part in that. Whether you’re a football fan or not, most people would acknowledge having a successful football club is good for Berwick.
“The Club gets the town a mention on national TV every Saturday, and in every newspaper on a Sunday. Perhaps there’s a bit of complacency that after more than 130 years of always being there, Berwick Rangers will always be a key part of the fabric of the town, but we have to work harder to ensure that’s the case.
“I plan to hold an open event with all supporters and friends of the Club in March to outline plans for next season, and would hope for a good attendance.”
