Amateurs make progress in the BAL Wright Cup
In the Border Amateur League Tweedmouth Harrow won their derby match against Tweedmouth Amateurs with a 7-2 win in the B League on Tuesday.
Patterson netted a hat-trick for the Harrow with their other goals coming from Crawford and Tait, who both scored twice.
Berwick Colts made the shorty journey over the Border to Duns in the B League on Tuesday where they lost 4-2. Goalscorers for the Colts were Barnett and Heath.
In the C League Highfields United had a good 7-1 home win over Kelso Amateurs. Wedderburn scored twice for Highfields with single strikes from Dodd, Wilson, France, Lillico and Purvis.
Tweedmouth Amateurs progressed to the next round of the Wright Cup when they won 5-3 at home to Stow on Saturday. Taylor Maden gave them an early lead, but Stow equalised before Jack Young put the Ammies 2-1 up at half-time. Tweedmouth then found themselves 3-2 down, but hit back to win with goals from Aidan Lauder, Young and substitute Liam Sykes.
Also in the Wright Cup, Tweedmouth Harrow went down to a 2-1 away defeat at the hands of Duns.
In a hard-fought encounter, the Berwickshire side took the lead through Luke Strangeways who rounded the keeper to net. The Harrow responded with a penalty from Martin Tait, who picked himself up after a foul to equalise from the spot with 20 minutes remaining, Duns being reduced to ten men after a defender was shown a red card. The home side then booked their place in the next round when Bunyan rode a challenge in the box to grab the winner.
Berwick Colts exited the Wright Cup when they were beaten 6-1 away to Gala Hotspur, with Barnett scoring their consolation goal.
Highfields United started the C League campaign with a 4-3 home defeat at the hands of Melrose. The visitors scored twice in the first five minutes and the Berwick side were unable to recover. Their goal scorers were Wedderburn, France and Wilson with a penalty.
