Two wins out of two for Tillside

It was week two of the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League and Tillside 1sts continued their winning ways, making it back to back victories in Division 2 with a home win over Cowgate 1sts.

Ivor and Oliver Patterson, who took seven wickets between them for Wooler in their win over Bomarsund 1sts, with Peter Smith batting for the visitors.

Tillside batted first and made 216-7 with Jamie Barr on 64 and Joe Bickerton on 57. Cowgate were 194-9 in reply.

On Saturday (May 1) Tillside will see their unbeaten start tested when they travel to take on local rivals Alnwick 1sts, who have also won their opening two fixtures and top the table on 59 points, just one ahead of the Etal side.

In Division 3, Berwick 1sts overcame a poor start to win by 28 runs away to Whitley Bay 1sts. Berwick struggled in the early stages and were 57-5 after 12 overs, but with Martin Hush hitting 54 and Asad Amir 42 they recovered and were all out for 203. Whitley were 175 all out in reply with Sam Straughan taking 4-38.

James Thompson hit 23 for Berwick in this match, taking his run tally for the club over the 1,000 landmark.

In Division 5 North, Warenford made it two wins out of two with an 11 run victory away to Howick. Warenford were 197-8 with Howick 186-7 at the end of their 40 overs.

In a low scoring game, Tillside 2nds went down to an eight wicket defeat away to Morpeth 2nds. Tillside were all out for only 56 with Morpeth chasing it down in 14 overs.

Rock went down to a four wicket home defeat at the hands of Blagdon 2nds. Rick were 102 all out with Blagdon posting 103-6 in their innings.

In Division 6 North, Berwick 2nds were awarded the points after visitors Embleton conceded as they could not raise a team.

Wooler, after conceding their opening fixture, got their season off an running with a one wicket win at home against Bomarsund 2nds. The visitors were all out for 97 with the father and son pairing of Ivor and Oliver Patterson, who were making their debuts, taking seven wickets between them. In a tense finish, the Glendale side sneaked home with only one ball to spare.
