Top of the table clashes beckon for local sides

Tillside 1sts continue to press near the top of Division 2 in the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League following a five wicket home win over Bates Cottages 1sts on Saturday.

In a low scoring game, Bates were all out for only 75 with Greg Davidson taking 5-29. Tillside (76-5) chased it down in 25 overs. The win puts them just three points behind leaders Ponteland 1sts, who they will meet in a top of the table clash this coming Saturday, away from home.

In Division 3, Berwick 2nds sit second in the table following a 20-run away victory over Stocksfield 1sts.

In another low scoring game, Berwick were 97 all out with Manu Shukla their top scorer on 20. Stocksfield were reduced to 77 all out in their innings, James Thompson, Michael Shearer and Elliott Keenan each claiming three wickets.

This weekend, Berwick face league leaders Ashington Rugby 1sts away from home in another top of the table clash, with only four points currently separating the sides.

In Division 5 North, Warenford moved to the top of the table with their six wicket home win over Monkseaton 1sts. The Tynesiders were all out for only 69 with Michael Thompson taking 4-12. Waren (71-4) chased it down in 22 overs.

Basement side Rock lost by eight wickets at home to Ulgham 1sts.

On a good batting wicket, Rock put on 164-5, but Ulgham were 168-2, getting the winning runs in the final over.

Tillside 2nds saw their game against league leaders Ashington Rugby 2nds abandoned due to the weather.

In Division 6 North, leaders Berwick 2nds had a big eight wicket away win over Ulgham 2nds.

The home side batted first and were 101-8 in their 40 overs, with Jay Baverstock taking 3-14. Berwick were 102-2 in reply with opener Gregor Thomson their leading bat on 63 not out.

Wooler had a six wicket away win over Embleton. The home side batted first but were all out for 71, Thomas Comber taking 6-26. It was an easy target for the Glendale side who were 77-3 in reply.
