Tillside, Berwick and Warenford all top tables
Local sides have made a good start to their campaigns in the Northumberland & Tyneside League with Tillside 1sts, Berwick 1sts and Warenford all unbeaten with three wins in a row, all topping their respective divisions.
Tillside 1sts made it three wins out of three with an away win over Alnwick 1sts and now sit top of Division 2, two points ahead of Whickham 1sts.
The Etal side batted first and put on 168-7 with Ross Hindmarsh 82 not out. Alnwick were then all out for only 59 giving the visitors a 109 run victory. Sean Wales and Greg Davidson took three wickets apiece.
In Division 3, Berwick 1sts also made it three wins in a row with a 58-run victory away to Allendale 1sts and they now sit one point clear at the top of the table ahead of Ashington Rugby 1sts and GEMs.
Berwick batted first and were 182 all out with Sam Straughan top scoring on 40 not out. They then dismissed Allendale for 124 all out with James Thompson taking a useful 4-35, well supported by Straughan and Michael Shearer who took three wickets apiece.
In Division 5 North, Warenford won their third successive game with a 64-run home victory over Rock and they are now joint top of the table with 88 points, alongside Ashington Rugby 2nds and Bedlington 2nds.
With Alan Swinton hitting 56, Waren posted 184-7 in their 40 overs. They then bowled Rock out for 120 with Kevin Thompson leading the attack taking 4-22, Ali Grieve weighing in with three wickets.
Tillside 2nds suffered a 66-run home defeat at the hands of Alnwick 2nds.
Alnwick put on 193-6 in their innings with Laurence Reeves top scoring on 47. Tillside were 127-9 in reply with John Gilchrist top scorer on 20 not out. Liam Murphy took four wickets for the visitors.
In Division 6 North, Berwick 2nds had a four wicket home win over local rivals Wooler and they now sit second in the table behind leaders Stobswood 2nds.
Wooler batted first and posted a modest 112 all out with ex-Berwick player Ivor Patterson the leading bat on 20. Jay Baverstock did most of the damage with 4-21, and in reply, the hosts chased it down at 115-6 in 28 overs with opener Gregor Thompson 36 not out and Mason Emery on 35.
Embleton, who had conceded their game against Berwick a week earlier, made it two wins from two starts with a 68 run away victory over Bomarsund.
Embleton batted first and with openers Paul Carse on 44 and Ewan Thorpe on 45, and Graham Stephenson weighing is with a useful 40, they put on a dece nt score of 207-7 in their 40 overs.
Bomarsund were never up with the run rate and closed at 139-5 in their innings with Robert Wilson top scoring on 46.
