The Duke of Northumberland’s development company withdrew an earlier application for nine ‘principal residence’ homes off Swinhoe Road in December.

It has now lodged a proposal for three dwellings on the greenfield site, also restricted to principal residence.

They would be bungalows or 1.5 storeys. Two would have three bedrooms and one would be two-bedroomed

A planning report on behalf of the applicant states: ‘The development aims to provide a small scale addition of residential properties in close proximity to existing village amenities without causing a detrimental effect to the existing density and character of Beadnell.’

Planning consultants also say one of the key development opportunities of the site is to maintain the strong building line of bungalows along Swinhoe Road.

Andy Brown of campaign group Beadnell Under Threat said: “As the three bungalows proposed conform to the building line and are within the settlement boundary, Northumberland Estates have reacted positively to our 93 objections and those of the parish council, the AONB Partnership and the building conservation officer.

"It is therefore difficult to find any objection apart from the well-used cri de coeur of no more building until Policy 14 of the neighbourhood plan for ‘principal residence’ has been tested by the ongoing 45-house development, called The Kilns, and the extra two with planning consent in Bernicia Way.”

Meanwhile, two linked applications have been made in the area behind Bradshawgate Cottages for a double garage extension and for two buildings with similar footprints, one a two-bedroom dwelling and the other an office/double garage.
