Young actors bring classic tale to stage
The best of Berwick's up and coming theatrical talent is waiting to take audiences into a magical world as The Maltings Youth Theatre prepares for its next production.
The company is in rehearsals for a fun-packed adaptation of CS Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
Penned by Glyn Robbins, the production follows Lewis’ classic tale where children Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy discover the world of Narnia on the other side of the wardrobe.
It is a land of mythical creatures and adventures, where the evil White Witch rules, but a battle is brewing with brave lion Aslan.
This year’s production has some new additions to the cast as members of the Maltings Junior Youth Theatre have moved up in time for their debut as seniors.
Some have even won leading roles.
And the rehearsal room is buzzing with excitement as the countdown to opening night next month gets under way.
The Maltings Youth Theatre continues to thrive as it builds on previous outstanding productions of The Three Musketeers last year, Hairspray in 2014, and Phantom of the Opera in 2013.
This time it is hoped that the wintry nature of the show will help audiences to get into the festive spirit in the build up to Christmas.
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe can be seen at The Maltings Main House Theatre, Berwick, from Thursday, November 10 to Saturday, November 12. Performances start at 7pm, and the show lasts about two hours, including an interval.
Tickets cost £12, £10 concessions, and £36 for a family ticket.
