Wooler volunteers thanked for efforts with Christmas lights

Volunteers have been thanked for their efforts in putting Wooler’s Christmas lights up.

The lights were put up earlier than usual at the request of local traders to make the town more attractive in the approach to the festive season.

Coun Mark Mather, parish council chairman, said: “I’d like to give a huge thanks to everyone who put them up. It’s really appreciated.

“There’s a lot of work goes on behind the scenes in checking all the lights.”

He thanked Robert Donkin, Kerren Rodgers, Joyce Armstrong, John Thompson, David Wilkinson, Mark Napier, Angus Murray, Kevan Curry, Mark Curry, Mark Trotter, Caroline Cumming, Tom Armstrong, Graham Donkin and Robert Brown.

However, Coun Cumming reported that she had received negative comments about the lights on South Road.

But Coun Mather countered: “I’ve heard lots of nice comments.”

Coun Anthony Murray added: “They are lovely.”

The official switch-on is on Sunday, December 1.
