Wooler only NNL side left in the Minor Cup

Wooler are the only survivors from the North Northumberland League through to the fourth round of the NFA Minor Cup.

In the all-NNL clash at the weekend, they beat Craster/Embleton, with Connor Cowans scoring twice and Sam Cowans, Liam Nesbitt and Matthew Stephenson also scoring in a 5-4 win.

The Craster/Embleton goals came from an Evan Moir hat-trick and a Raphel Jaku strike.

Michael Brown gave Alnmouth a 65th minute lead in their tie against Gosforth Bohemians Reserves, but three late goals saw Gosforth take the tie.

AFC Newbiggin hit the woodwork four times during their tie against Ellington, but it was the visitors who took the tie with a late strike.

Lowick United conceded five times as they lost out at New York.

In the league, there were wins for North Sunderland, Amble Masons and Alnwick Town Development.

This was a good game of football played at a fast and furious pace throughout.

In a first half of six goals, it was the home side who held the advantage at the interval, scoring four times. During the second half, it was closer, with Amble netting a third goal before the home side netted a late fifth to ensure the win.

Goalscorers for North Sunderland were Ross Stanton and Ryan Thompson with two each plus a Danny Lillico strike, while goalscorers for Amble were Kyle Armstrong, Ross Martin and Liam Ramsay.

Bedlington Seniors A 2

Alnwick Town Dev 6

In this reversed fixture, it was Alnwick who had the better of the first half as they netted three times with Mathew Crawford scoring for the home side.

In the second half, Crawford netted his second of the game but Alnwick finished the stronger to net three more before the final whistle.

Goalscorers for Alnwick were Paul Muers (2), Brenden Jewers, Brandon Mallaburn, Thomas Forster and Cameron Thorpe.

Ashington Town 1

Amble Masons 3

Following an even first half, a John Cummins goal gave Ashington the lead at half-time. During the second half Amble made the most of their chances to net three times through Jacob Wallace, Michael Carr and Joe Flanighan to secure the points.
