Wooler lights to be switched on
Several local communities are holding Christmas lights switch-on events this weekend.
In Wooler, a bumper afternoon of festive entertainment is promised on Sunday, combining a Christmas farmers’ market, free family Christmas film and the arrival of Santa to switch on the town’s lights.
The farmers’ market will run from noon until 3pm with a host of local food producers and crafts folk selling their goods in the bus station. There will be four fund-raising stalls, including one with crafts made by a Wooler student who is raising money to join an expedition to the Galapagos Islands.
A craft workshop will be held during the market for children to make Christmas tree decorations.
There is also a free Christmas film for accompanied children in the Cheviot Centre, Padgepool Place, starting at 2.30pm.
Around 4.30pm, Santa will arrive in the market place for the switch-on of the lights and carols. Mulled wine and refreshments will be available.
Also on Sunday, Etal’s lights will be switched on at 5pm. Beadnell’s switch-on is on Friday, December 7, in the Bullring at 6pm, followed by refreshments in the WI Hall.
