Tweedmouth took on last season’s A League winners, West Barns, at the Five Arches on Saturday, with the home side looking to make it three wins on the spin following back to back wins in the league.

The home side started the game the better and could have taken an early lead following a corner from Tait, with Wright just putting his header narrowly over the bar.

However, mid-way through the half, after the back four failed to clear their lines, the visiting centre half found himself with time and space to head them in front.

Tweedmouth continued to battle and with Gibb introduced at the break the message to the players was to stay patient and further chances would come.

Tweedmouth upped their game and showed more fight and tenacity then their opponents and deservedly drew level ten minutes into the second half through Wood.

Now in the ascendency the home side continued to pile forward, searching for the winner, and on 75 minutes Wood added his second of the match to fire them in front.

West Barns made a tactical switch to get something out of the game, but the home side’s back four stood firm and with Stobart producing a fine save late on it was to be Tweedmouth’s day.

The Berwick side can take great credit for the fight and hard work they showed to ensure they took all three points and moved up to fourth place in the league.

Man of the match for Tweedmouth was Dean Powling following another excellent performance in midfield.

Tweedmouth would like to thank JH Greenwood and Kevin Dixon Building Services for Saturday’s match sponsorship.

* This weekend Tweedmouth are away to Gordon in the Border Amateur League A Division, whilst Berwick Colts travel to take on Ancrum in the C Division.
