On Sunday, May 7, 22 members of Berwick and District Friends of Dementia enjoyed an afternoon at The Maltings where they saw Berwick Operatic Society perform the musical Oliver.
What a superb show it was.
We are so lucky to have such a wealth of talent right here in our little town.
At the end of the performance, the cast sang Happy Birthday to our friend Helen, who was celebrating her 80th birthday that very day.
Young Corey Learmonth, who was playing the lead role, presented Helen with a bouquet of flowers and it was an emotional moment for both of them.
Our grateful thanks to Berwick Opera for this wonderful gesture, very much appreciated.
Lately, our little organisation has received a number of donations.
We wish to say thank you to the staff and customers of Newcastle Building Society, staff and customers of M&S Food, members of Wallace Green Working Group, Ann Hutchison, Sue MacGillivry, singing duo Nicola and Brian, staff and customers of Foxton’s Wine Bar, and Isabel Blair and Sandra.
My sincere apologies if I have missed anyone out.
Thanks to the wonderful support we receive from the generous people in our area, Alz Cafe is going from strength to strength.
The aim of our group is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for people with mild to moderate dementia and their carers.
We meet every Thursday morning, from 10.30am until 12.30pm, in St Cuthbert’s Parish Centre in Walkergate.
