The solution has been a long time arriving, with Cllr Gavin Jones, member for Berwick North on Northumberland County Council, working with several Magdalene ward town councillors.

Cllr Jones said: “Following the last site visit between Cllr McLean, Four Housing, the council and myself, the scheme was been brought forward with a combination of Four Housing and my small schemes allowance (the verge is Four Housing land).

“The summer has also seen a tidying of the path between Westfields and the holiday camp, along with an attempt to resolve the standing water issues on this pathway, following a site visit with Cllrs Gibson, McLean, the council and myself.”

Cllr McLean has also revealed the work going on in his ward in a report to the town council. He said discussions about the Newfields shelter were still on-going but it was decided to wait until the new bus company has its routes determined before any decision is made on its location. He is also pushing for a safety barrier at Newfields play park and the repair of sunken slabs at the entrance to the estate.
