Do you have a few spare hours in your week? Are you perhaps looking to make positive and rewarding changes to your life? Would you like to give something back to your local community and make some new friends?

If any of the above applies to you, then look no further, Bell View would welcome you to join its group of more than 50 fantastic volunteers.

Based in Belford, Bell View is a charity dedicated to providing services and activities for older people, covering a large area of rural North Northumberland.

There are many areas in which you could become involved.

“The Hub” community café, based in our building, is always on the look-out for help to serve sandwiches, snacks, tea and coffee.

Our fully accessible community transport wouldn’t be able to operate without volunteer drivers carrying out over 1,700 trips annually, transporting older and/or disabled people, enabling access to shopping, hospital appointments and visits to friends and family, as well as numerous other trips.

The organic potting shed garden, with raised beds and other gardens, has been lovingly tended by dedicated volunteers for several years, producing all manner of delicious fruit and vegetables. We are now in need of people with or without any gardening expertise to continue doing this rewarding work.

Luncheon clubs, of which there are several covering North Northumberland, provide older people with opportunities to socialise whilst enjoying a nutritious meal together.

At many fundraising events throughout the year volunteers make a massive contribution in planning and running activities, assisting with selling raffle tickets, bric-a-brac, cakes, and more.

Meals on Wheels is another valuable service, with volunteers using their own transport to deliver hot meals to people in the community.

Reception and administration is a key part of the charity’s operation, with volunteers answering the phones and helping with numerous other administrative tasks.

Volunteering is of huge value to Bell View and the local community, while volunteers reap the benefits of making new friends and meeting people.

Volunteers also get involved in other things going on. One volunteer said recently: “I have gained so much from volunteering – probably even more than I have given.”

Another said: “I feel useful and Bell View feels like one big happy family.”

Last year alone, volunteers at Bell View gave more than 4,500 hours of their time.

If you are interested, or need more information, please contact Bell View on 01668 219220.

Please note that some volunteering may require a disclosure and barring service check.

On a final note, we apologise for making an error in news from January.

Our Help at Home service actually delivered more than 600 hours of care per week, not 600 hours per month as previously stated, to older and/or disabled people living in Northumberland.
