Volunteer drivers needed
A local charity is calling out for voluntary drivers to support compatriots by transporting them to volunteering opportunities.
Northumberland CVA’s Supported Volunteering project helps some of the county’s hardest to reach unemployed people to develop the confidence and skills they need to find work.
The scheme is part of The Bridge Project, which is funded by the European Social Fund and the National Lottery Community Fund, as part of the Building Better Opportunities Programme.
Northumberland CVA is looking to expand its team of Volunteer Buddies by recruiting drivers to transport and accompany individuals undertaking volunteering to improve their confidence and life experiences in order to improve their employability opportunities.

Northumberland CVA’s project co-ordinator, Lisa Wackett said: “We have a valued and experienced team of buddies who have been supporting our beneficiaries on their journey for over two years but as the project continues we are seeking more individuals to provide support transporting our beneficiaries to and from volunteering opportunities.
“Our volunteer drivers will themselves gain new skills and meet new people, as well as having the satisfaction of taking on a new challenge and supporting others who are less confident.”
Anyone wishing to be a volunteer driver must be able to explain things clearly and have empathy and understanding. They need to be willing to commit to a minimum of one half day per week plus training prior to becoming a buddy. Out of pocket expenses will be paid and a Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.
You will be required to advise your insurance company that you are volunteering and must provide proof of insurance and registration details to enable us to confirm your car is taxed and MOT.
