Victorious election candidate hails '˜new dawn' for Berwick

The new county councillor for Berwick East has welcomed a new dawn in the town's politics.

Georgina Hill was speaking after her victory in the Northumberland County Council elections.

The Independent candidate polled 54 more votes than her nearest challenger, Conservative Hayley Nichols with Lib Dem candidate Margaret McKinnon third, Independent Paul Hodgson fourth and Green Party candidate Thomas Stewart fifth.

Georgina said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been given this opportunity to serve residents of Tweedmouth and Spittal.

“I look forward to working with the other county councillors to move Berwick forward, after decades of decline and neglect. This really feels like a new dawn.”
