North East landscapes have played a pivotal role in the captivating detective drama and famous faces including Brenda Blethyn, also known as Det Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope, have returned to the region this June.

Based on the bestselling books by crime writer Ann Cleeves, Vera and her team at the fictional Northumberland and City Police are tasked with solving compelling mysteries which take them on journeys around the rolling North East countryside and seaside.

As the next wave of filming begins, Parkdean Resorts – which has five holiday parks along the North East coastline, as well as Eyemouth in Berwickshire – has identified five settings which have provided the famous backdrops to many past scenes.

They include the Farne Islands, featured in series seven when DCI Stanhope investigated the death of a wildlife ranger on a remote island at a bird sanctuary.

Elsewhere, Craster is home to the hidden cove of Rumbling Kern which was a key location for the dramatic events which unfolded in series seven.

And Alnwick provided a number of filming locations throughout series five which featured the Market Place.

Whitley Bay beach and Nose’s Point, Durham, are among other places featured in the show.
