Value of the record office

On behalf of the Friends of Berwick and District Museum and Archives, I should like to thank the many visitors who called at the Town Hall last Saturday and Sunday (506 on Saturday and 407 on Sunday) to see the record office's exhibition of photographs of Berwick's shops and streets in the 1950s and the old films of Berwick.

This was Berwick Record Office’s contribution to National Heritage Weekend.

I should like to thank the hard work put into the exhibition by the staff of the record office and the volunteers from the Friends who supervised and stewarded the event.

The whole event was very successful and people could be seen reminiscing about long disappeared shops.

While there were few premises in Berwick open during the heritage weekend, unlike in previous years, the event proved the value of the record office in contributing to this popular event, which attracted people to Berwick from all over the country.
