Suz Downie, manager of the Sue Ryder shop in Berwick.

Suz Downie said: “We estimate that the Berwick shop alone, which is one of 450 Sue Ryder shops across the UK, has raised enough funds over the last 20 years to cover 34 Sue Ryder nurse salaries.

“We couldn’t have raised this incredible amount without all our volunteers, past and present. They have worked tirelessly to keep the shop open six days a week, sorting, steaming and pricing stock, and providing first-class customer service. I am also so grateful to my assistant manager Tina, who welcomed me when I joined the shop as manager last year.

“I would like to thank the generous Berwick community, which has ensured a constant stream of donations to the shop, and to our many loyal customers who browse our selection of fashion, books and homewares.”

To mark the occasion on Friday, September 14 it is holding a tea party with a spread of cakes for volunteers and customers.
