Tweed Dock cargo ship plays the waiting game
The cargo ship Truffaldino had to wait in Berwick Bay for more than 24 hours before entering Tweed Dock on Wednesday night. The 89metre-long vessel, en route from Riga in Latvia was loaded to a draft of 4.40 metres when maximum draft for Berwick earlier in the week was 4.30 metres so there was not enough water.
Strong winds and rough seas also made it a difficult entry.
Alan Irving, of Berwick Harbour, said: “Shipowners knew the position in advance and were expecting to sit in Berwick Bay for a day or two. The vessel entered port on the first suitable tide.”
She left the port on Sunday, bound for Gdansk in Poland.
