Try out a mixed morris dancing group
An try-out session is being held for anyone interested in having a go at morris dancing.
Rag Bag Morris meet weekly for practices on a Tuesday night in Allanton, just south of Chirnside.
They are a mixed side who dance the Scottish Border Tradition. For non-Morris people, that means both men and women dance, and they have made up a new ‘tradition’ loosely based on local dances, tunes and themes.
On Sunday, January 22 the group is running a try-out session for anyone who wants to give it a go.
It is going to be in the church hall behind BURC (formerly St Paul’s) in Spittal, at 2pm.
There is no commitment to join, people can just give it a try and see what it is like. All ages over 18 are welcome and no experience is necessary.
Those wanting to have a go are advised to turn up in comfortable clothes and wear flat shoes, (trainers are ideal), and an explanation will be given about what goes on.
The group regularly dances at events across the county and further afield.
It is also keen to hear from musicians, although you will need to have your own acoustic, portable instrument and basic knowledge of how to play it.
