Berwick Upon Tweed railway station.

The meeting is being held in the town hall on January 16, at 6.30pm.

The potential benefits to Berwick of greater connectivity and later trains are expected to be discussed.

It is being coordinated by Coun Georgina Hill, who has been a long-time campaigner for improved rail services in Berwick, especially late trains from Edinburgh and Newcastle which would make nights out more feasible.

A better service would also make Berwick more attractive for commuters.

Last week, a £60billion transport plan including a road tunnel beneath the Pennines and a new rail line from Manchester to the North East was agreed by politicians and business leaders. It will be published early in 2018, leading to a 13-week consultation before it is presented to the Government.
