Top scorer Thomson signs new Rangers' deal
Berwick Rangers have confirmed that Steven Thomson has penned a new deal to extend his stay at Shielfield Park.
Thomson was a star man for the club over the course of the last campaign. The 32 year old made 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and ended the season as the club’s top scorer.
He was also the major winner at the end of season player awards, with a near clean sweep of the honours, being recognised by the fans and his fellow players.
Manager John Coughlin has been keen to tie the former Musselburgh Athletic midfielder down to a new contract as his current deal was about to expire.
Thomson joins Pat Scullion, Gary Phillips and Greg Rutherford in penning new terms. The quartet will be joined by Sean Brennan, Kevin McKinlay, Robert Wilson, Jonny Fairbairn, Steven Notman, Michael McKenna and Darren Lavery who all penned two-year deals last summer.
Coughlin has also invited youngster Callum Helm to take part in pre-season with the club. Helm has been a part of the youth system for a number of years, however the player has had two serious injuries which had ruled him out of the last two campaigns.
Meanwhile, Coughlin has confirmed that is is looking to strengthen his squad with the addition of several new faces. However, progress in the transfer has been hampered as a result of many of his targets being on holiday. He says he hopes to make more positive strides on their return.

The stopper spent five years at Shielfield Park, amassing a total of 143 appearances, making him one of the club’s top 50 all-time appearance makers.
The ‘keeper graduated from the youth system of Dundee United, enjoying short loan stays with East Stirlingshire and Meadowbank Thistle before he featured on 247 occasions for Brechin City, where he was number one for the eight seasons prior to his move to Berwick.
