Talking newspaper service is doing well

There are still many people in Berwick and district who would enjoy the talking newspaper, chairman John Lackenby told the annual meeting.

It digitally records items from The Berwick Advertiser and the system, introduced three years ago, is working well.

Thanks to a team of dedicated volunteers, more than 40 people with visual impairment have it delivered to them on memory sticks every Friday.

The customers have very few problems using the sticks and whenever there has been a breakdown it is quickly repaired.

He appealed to anyone interested in taking up the service to get in touch. Volunteers would always be welcome to join them.

The i newsletter cut through the noise

A business plan is operated and fund-raising carried out to ensure there is enough in hand to maintain and update equipment and provide a reliable service.

They were particularly grateful to the Berwick office of the Yorkshire Building Society and the Charities Cup committee for support.
