Take time to remember a loved one this Christmas
A special remembrance service is taking place in Berwick, with people encouraged to take time out from the Christmas season to remember the lives of loved ones.
Light up a Life, organised by St Oswald’s Hospice, returns to Berwick Baptist Church on Monday at 7pm. The hospice is based in Newcastle, but looks after people from across Northumberland.
Anyone can attend, whether or not they have a connection with the hospice, and supporters can dedicate a light on the Christmas tree, which will be turned on at the service.
Alan Arthur is taking part this year to remember his wife of almost half-a-century, Pat, who was 74 when she died at St Oswald’s. He will attend the remembrance service with his daughter, who lives in Kelso.

Since Pat’s death, Alan and his family have supported St Oswald’s by holding an auction after Pat’s funeral and taking part in its Lantern Walk event.
“I’m taking part in Light up a Life to support St Oswald’s, but it’s also an opportunity to focus my attention on thinking about Pat,” said Alan.
