Storytelling time at Berwick school
Holy Trinity First School in Berwick has become the first school in Northumberland to have a storyteller as its patron of reading.
Marjorie Leithead, pictured with pupils Orla and John, will be promoting reading for pleasure with adults and children.
She met pupils and parents on a visit to the school last Wednesday.
Head teacher Dawn Groves said: “Marjorie is an amazing storyteller whose rich language and knowledge of tales from all around the world will enhance the children’s own storytelling and story writing. We are really excited to be working with her.”
A Patron of Reading is a school’s special, designated children’s author with whom the school forms a personal attachment.
The patron might be a writer of fiction, a writer of non-fiction, a poet, storyteller or an illustrator.
