Stuart McNaughton, strategic transport policy officer, said: “That project is on-going. It’s complex in terms of identifying the required land for Network Rail and getting access to the site but we are working with them and LNER and hopefully that project can start to make some progress in the next few months.”

He also mentioned the possibility of an east-west extension of the Borders railway from Tweedbank to Berwick, identified as a potential improvement in a connectivity study carried out by Transport Scotland.

“We look forward to seeing that study develop to see what the opportunities are,” he said.
