Start of new salmon season celebrated

A traditional blessing to mark the start of the salmon fishing season on the River Tweed was held at Pedwell Landing in Norham on Thursday morning.

The start of the salmon fishing season on the River Tweed was marked with a traditional blessing of the nets service at Norham, conducted by Rev Rob Kelsey and with Jim Cameron casting the first line.

A short service was conducted by Rev Rob Kelsey and the first line was cast by Jim Cameron before a wee dram was enjoyed.

The Pedwell Prayer would traditionally ask for a blessing on the fishery, its crew, its nets and its catch. The shot was rowed and the vicar would be presented with the first salmon.
