They are working towards staging a series of events to showcase the work they’ve done on song writing, arrangements, production, vocal coaching and live performance.

The school for young musicians was set up by singer-songwriters Iain Petrie and Anna Emmins, alias Electric Penelope, to help youngsters hoping to carve out careers in the music industry.

Iain said he was inspired by the huge amount of young musical talent in Berwick and wanted to give people the skills they need to fulfil their potential, and he is delighted with how it has gone so far.

He said: “Things are going very well indeed. It is exceeding all our expectations.

“We have an amazing group of 10 super-talented singers and songwriters.

“Production is continuing apace, and we will soon be ready to release the first Inspired CD.

“Their confidence is growing with every week, and the music is incredible.”

A series of events will be taking place over the next few weeks, culminating in a final show at the Berwick Maltings.

The first event is an acoustic show at the music gallery at Berwick’s Kazmiranda Cafe on Saturday, March 19, from 1pm to 3pm.

There will then be an open evening on Monday, March 21, from 7.30pm to 9pm, at the Beehive, in the town’s Golden Square.

Parents and sponsors of the project will be able to find out how it is going and hear some of the work that has been done.

The final show will be the album’s launch at the Maltings. The students will be performing their own compositions, backed by a house band, on Thursday, April 21, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5, £3 for concessions.

The project is sponsored by Arts Council England, the Community Foundation, the Maltings, NorthernLab, Iain Grieve, Printspot, Berwick Rotary Club and accountancy firm Greaves West and Ayre.
