Society about to say hello, Dolly!
Based on a hit movie, with songs that will have audiences up on their feet and singing along, Berwick Operatic Society's next production looks set to be one of its best yet.
Bringing the musical version of 9 to 5 to the Berwick Maltings, the society is promising a night of fun, comedy, friendship, gossip and revenge.
Securing the rights to the show is a coup for the society as it will be one of the first amateur groups to perform it since its premiere in 2008.
The show, like the movie, centres on three office workers out to turn the tables on their sexist, egotistical, bigot of a boss.
They conspire to take over the company, and they learn that if they put their minds to it there is nothing that they can’t do, even in a man’s world.
Feisty and fun, the show – written by Patricia Resnick and Colin Higgins and based on the 1980 movie starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, and Dabney Coleman – features Parton’s Oscar-nominated title song, 9 to 5, a No 47 hit that year. The cast is made up of Lisa Summers, Zoe Graham, Diane Renner, Euan Duthie, Louise Wood, Slink Jadranko, Cameron Robertson, Fergus Rae, Georgina Faed, Laura Catterall, Sandra Storey, Nicola Foggon, Iain Lowson and Robert Lowthian.
They will perform 18 original numbers, mixing Broadway and pop to get the audience tapping their feet and joining in.
The show runs from Wednesday, April 13, to Saturday, April 16.
Performances take place at 7.30pm each evening, with a 2.30pm matinee on the Saturday.
Tickets for the opening night are £12, or £36 for a box for two people. Tickets for Thursday to Saturday’s shows are £14, £12 for concessions, or £42 box for two.
