Snow falls in north Northumberland

Parts of north Northumberland have seen their first snowfall of winter.

It has caused difficult driving conditions for commuters this morning.

A lorry overturned on the northbound A1 at Brownieside.

There was a covering of snow in Berwick before dawn and it has created tricky conditions for pedestrians where it has not yet melted.

The i newsletter cut through the noise

Staff from Northumberland County Council have been out gritting the main routes.

Temperatures dropped to -2degC at the Letham Shank weather station last night.

There are also concerns about a forecast tidal surge on the east coast, including the River Tweed this afternoon. High tide is just after 3pm. The Environment Agency has issued a warning.
