Shops invited to show floral prowess
Berwick in Bloom and Berwick Town Council are inviting businesses to enter their Make Berwick Beautiful competition.
The contest is to create Berwick’s best outside floral display.
As it is the Queen’s 90th birthday this year, the organisers thought it could be Berwick’s own contribution to this anniversary and a celebration of her long and eventful reign.
Entry to the competition is free with the winners from each category awarded a framed certificate.
The overall winner will be presented with the Berwick Floral Cup which will have the business/name engraved upon it and will be held for a year.
Entry can only be in one of the four categories: 1 Accommodation Providers; 2 Licensed Premises Only; 3 Shops; 4 Cafés/Restaurants.
Entries will be individual properties which include one or more of the following: Baskets; tubs; containers; or window boxes.
If successful, it is hoped to extend the contest to include residents’ gardens and containers in 2017.
Call Berwick Town Council on 01289 302391 or email email@example.com for an entry form/inquiries or download it from the town council website and post/email all completed forms to the Town Council Office, 5 The Chandlery, Berwick-upon-Tweed, TD15 1HE.
The closing date for applications is March 18.
Displays will be judged at the beginning of July by the Mayor of Berwick or his/her representative and a member of Berwick in Bloom. Results will be posted or emailed to all entrants.
The best overall winner from the four categories will be judged by an independent expert with a presentation evening in the town hall on August 15, at 6pm.
