Seats in town centre to get priority attention
Berwick Town Council is keen to start its seat repair programme as soon as possible so that key areas can be improved for the start of the tourist season.
The council is responsible for around 300 seats, many of which are in a poor condition.
Members of the finance and resources committee agreed with a suggestion by Councillor Alex Gibson to get a local painter in to carry out some remedial works on the town centre seats before spring.
However, councillors want to ensure they have a programme of priorities in place before tackling the full project. Once repairs have been done, maintenance will be done by the two handymen being employed.
Councillor Gordon McLean said: “It’s going to take a while to put right.”
